Necromorphing Power Rangers!

Tue Nov 18, 2008, 7:37 PM
Well I feel as though I’m digging a mighty big hole for this one and then asking someone to bury me in concrete. This will be my first official full cosplay. I mean, I’ve made dresses and things before, but definitely nothing to this scale.

As soon as I saw the Lullaby trailer for the game…I fell in absolute love with it. I knew I wanted to do something from the game, but I didn’t know who…or in this case what. I decided that I was going to tackle the rather impossible task of cosplaying the Slasher Necromorph. Screenshots were abundant, but I soon came to a realization that no two Slashers looked the same, well…not exactly the same anyway. At first, this was a curse, a giant frustration really but in fact it was a blessing. Now I have a bit of wiggleroom with the design for my Slasher. That way I can not only make it loyal to the game but also make it comfortable to wear.

I knew I had a challenge on my hands when I really started to study the creature’s design—it’s nature really. The Slasher’s arms are of course the focus which I figure will actually be my arms with my wrists immobilized temporally so I may carry the “scythe arms” which seem to either jet out directly from the stumpy remains of the wrist or in other cases extending from the palms. I figured this would be a bit more taxing on my arms, but in the end safer then having static scythe-like wings jutting out from my shoulders.

The creature seems to have another set of arms—or at least a set of forearms and hands positioned at its hips. They really serve no purpose in game other then to look menacing in a screenshot, since these arms are not modeled to fly off like the other limbs when shot to strategically dismember the beast.

There is also a slight problem with its face, probably using a latex prosthetic, but most Slasher’s seem to be missing their bottom jaw and they appear to have little red tentacles drooping down from their soft palate. Although in some images it appears to be a primitive sort of muzzle instead of just the missing mandible.

Granted, I have a lot of ideas for this, but more often then not it’s just my brain thinking up rather impossible ways to accomplish things. So if anyone had any sort of advice for how I should go about tackling this Slasher I’d love to hear suggestions.

Also~ included references pictures for anyone who isn’t completely savvy on this lovely Necromorphs.

And everything could have been perfect
Everything in the right place
Then I wouldn't have to play the suspect
Accused, abandoned and disgraced
